This is the highest stretch of the Ring Road, about 540 m across open highland with almost no wind break — in snow showers, this section closes before anything else between Akureyri and Egilsstaðir. Möðrudalur is the only shelter midway. In summer the road is easy, but the wind is the same — take it slow in a campervan or with a trailer.
