Fjarðarheiði rises to 620 m and is the only road between Egilsstaðir and Seyðisfjörður, where the Norröna ferry docks. It is the highest year-round-maintained pass in Iceland and closes for an hour or more on winter nights routinely. Plan ferry trips with a two-hour buffer and check conditions an hour before departure — otherwise the ferry sails without you.
