About Færð.is

What is Færð.is?

Færð.is combines weather forecasts, road conditions, webcams and warnings in one place for road trips in Iceland. What sets it apart: the forecast is computed for your estimated arrival time at each point along the route — not just conditions right now. The site is an independent project, built and run by one person.

Data sources

All data comes from official and open providers and is at most about five minutes old when shown:

How the assessment works

The route is split into waypoints and an estimated arrival time is computed for each. The forecast shown at each stop is for the time you are expected there. Road conditions and webcams always show the current state.

The signals — gusts, road status, weather warnings and closures — are shown raw so you can make your own judgement. The overall route assessment (e.g. “good conditions” or “not recommended”) is driven by the worst signal along the route.

Disclaimer

Færð.is is a planning aid, not a guarantee. Forecasts can be wrong and conditions in Iceland change fast. Check the official sources before you leave — especially in winter and in the highlands — and use your own judgement. You remain responsible for your own travel decisions.

Privacy

No accounts, no ads and no personally identifiable data. Usage statistics are anonymous: searches are logged with place names (e.g. “Reykjavík → Akureyri”) but never exact coordinates, IP addresses or persistent identifiers.

Saved and recent routes live in your browser (localStorage) and never leave your device.
